City of Gonzales Notebook: Council meeting held March 25

The Gonzales City Council held a regular meeting March 25 at city hall.

Matters under consideration included:

  • The council approved a special event permit for a Slingshot Meet Up set for 6 to 10 p.m. April 20 at Buffalo Wild Wings, 2001 Hwy. 30, Gonzales.
  • Members approved a special event permit request for the River Road African American Museum to use the amphitheater from noon to 7 p.m. May 11 for a music festival.
  • The council approved a request for Small Business Owners of Ascension to hold a Trunk or Treat event from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 12 in the parking lot of Salad Station, 2005 W. Cabela's Parkway.
  • Members approved an intergovernmental agreement between the city and Ascension Parish government, allowing the parish to use city-owned baseball and softball fields.
  • The council supported and authorized the preparation of a community project submission for federal funding to U.S. Rep. Garret Graves to build the St. Francis Parkway connector project, which connects the Our Lady of the Lake Ascension hospital to the road.
  • Members supported the preparation of a community project submission for federal funding to U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy to construct a new business incubator and industry innovation center at 1006 W. Hwy. 30.

Also, the City of Gonzales has released the latest edition of its newsletter, Progress Gonzales.

This month, the city's newsletter focused on spring gardening, the upcoming Earth Day and other events in the area.
