Rock the Country
The long wait is over for a much-anticipated Gonzales music festival.
The Rock the Country tour will kick off April 5-6 in the heart of Ascension Parish with headliners Kid Rock and Jason Aldean and several other acts.
The opener for the festival, which will tour the South and play venues in places with small-town vibes, will be at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.
Parking opens at noon and doors open at 3 p.m. for both days of the festival.
The music acts April 5 will be:
- Kolby Cooper at 4 p.m.
- Elvie Shane at 5 p.m.
- Travis Tritt at 6 p.m.
- Koe Wetzel at 7:45 p.m.
- Jason Aldean at 9:30 p.m.
The April 6 acts will be:
- Sadie Bass at 3:30 p.m.
- Gavin Adcock at 4 p.m.
- Uncle Kracker at 5 p.m.
- Big and Rich featuring Gretchen Wilson at 6:15 p.m.
- Hank Williams Jr. at 7:45 p.m.
- A surprise guest has been slated for 9 p.m.
- Kid Rock at 9:45 p.m.
School bond renewal forums
Ascension Parish Public Schools will hold public forums regarding the school bond renewal on the April 27 election ballot.
According to the district, renewal of the existing 15.08 millage will enable the system to implement $110 million in school improvements and construction projects.
The forums will be at 6 p.m. at the following locations:
- April 8 at Dutchtown High Main Gym, 13165 LA Hwy. 73, Geismar
- April 9 at Donaldsonville High, 100 Tiger Dr., Donaldsonville
- April 10 at East Ascension High Cafetorium, 612 East Worthey Road, Gonzales
- April 11 at St. Amant High Cafetorium, 12035 LA Hwy. 431, St. Amant
Early voting will be April 13-20 at the courthouse in Donaldsonville, the governmental annex in Gonzales and the Oak Grove Community Center.

Teacher job fair
Ascension Parish Public Schools will hold a teacher job fair April 10 at Bluff Middle School in Prairieville to fill positions for the 2024-2025 school year.
Experienced teachers wishing to secure positions, including at the new Prairieville High School, should attend, as well as those who will be graduating from teacher preparation programs in May, according to a district news release.
The fair will be 4:30-7 p.m. at the school, which is located at 15464 Bluff Rd., Prairieville.
Hazardous materials collection
The Ascension Parish Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 13.
The event will be at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, at 9039 S. St. Landry Ave., Gonzales.
Advocacy event
Millie Mattered Overdose and Addiction Advocacy will hold a walk at Jambalaya Park in Gonzales beginning at 2 p.m. April 13.
