A Donaldsonville woman was sentenced to 20 years in prison in connection with an October 2023 conviction for attempted first-degree murder and home invasion, according to a news release from the 23rd Judicial District Attorney's Office.

Peggy Valentine was found guilty during a trial late last year after a May 2022 home invasion led to a stabbing.

The March 26 sentence included credit for time served, per the release.

In May 2022, Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office deputies reportedly found that a female dressed in all black made unauthorized entry into a home and stabbed a woman in her bed with a box cutter.

According to reports at the time, the victim was transported to a hospital with multiple stab wounds.

As reported late last year, Valentine's defense argued a video-recorded confession should not be allowed in the trial as one of the deputies she spoke to was her personal pastor.
