LHSAA football: Captain Shreve, North Caddo, Calvary, Haughton among Friday winners

Matt Hall ran for 166 yards and ended the game with a 58-yard scoring run as Captain Shreve rallied in the second half to down North DeSoto 30-9 at Griffin Stadium on Friday night.

Trailing 9-0 at the half, Shreve came out running the ball the second half gaining 119 yards in the third quarter and took a 14-9 lead on Kenyon Terrell’s 1-yard run and H-back William Moore’s 38-yard scamper. The Gators tacked on a couple more scores late and the Gator defense held the Griffins to just 82 yards in the second half. 

North Caddo 26, Homer 25: Juvontavious Hodge hit KJ Black for a short touchdown with one second remaining to lift the Titans to the opening win. LSU commit Omarion Miller sat out the last play with body cramps but had two touchdowns and more than 100 receiving yards. 

Haughton 55, Red River 49: The Bucs got a scare from Red River, which tested the Haughton defense time and again. Haughton’s Colin Rains threw five touchdowns, ran for another and caught one from Joshua Sewell. Red River quarterback Zintayvious Smith kept Haughton on the run with six touchdown passes and one rushing.

Sterlington 42, Loyola 14: Flyers quarterback Jacob Lafitte hit Tray Taylor for a 43-yard score and had a rushing touchdown of 11 yards, but those were the only highlights for Loyola. Tremell Colvin had three rushing touchdowns for the Sterlington. 

Natchitoches-Central 34, Woodlawn 0: Caylin Demars ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns NDHS. Justin Aaron grabbed two interceptions including a 45-yard interception touchdown return.  Sam Maggio hit both of his field goal attempts.

Glenbrook 59, River Oaks 28: Glenbrook captured its first victory as an LHSAA school as Ty Feaster threw three touchdowns and added a field goal in the win.  Turner McLelland, Maddox Mandino, Landry Powell and DJ Carter also scored for Glenbrook. 

Abbeville 43, St. Mary’s 23: Tigers quarterback Adam Parker completed 14 of 31 passes for 162 yards but it wasn’t enough. Ethan Busby caught two of the TD throws.

Lakeside 39, Magnolia Charter 0: Lakeside’s Ashton Stewart scored twice for the Warriors, while Jacob Whitehead threw a 30-yard touchdown to Cade Boley and added a rushing touchdown. Torrio Grigbsy also scored a Lakeside touchdown.

North Webster 34, Haynesville 7: North Webster’s Ja’ Marcus Stephens scored three touchdowns, while teammates Cooper Sanders and Collin McKenzie also scored.  

BTW 45, Plain Dealing 0: Jotavious Morris rushed over 100 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns for the Lions.  Quarterback Roy Morris also contributed with a touchdown. 

Parkway 45, Minden 14: The Panthers started fast against Minden as Ed Moses bolted for a 65-yard touchdown in the opening minutes. Ron Richmond added two scores, including an 82-yard touchdown to close the first half. Jalen White, Derek Brown and Demond Blackwell all added scores.

Mansfield 28, Evangel 23: Wolverine quarterback Dakeldrick Thomas ran for two scores and passed for two scores in the win. Darren Kelly and Trey Dewitt provided interceptions for Mansfield to seal the game. 

Lincoln Prep 44, Beekman Charter 6: The Panthers’ Dimitri Payne caught four touchdowns and had over 300 receiving yards, while quarterback Terrel Simmons passed for over 400 yards and added 120 yards rushing including a touchdown. 

Ouachita Christian 40, Southwood 0: The Southwood Cowboys opened with a shutout loss to the Division IV state runners-up. Southwood has been shutout at least once every year since 2014.  

Carroll 45, Green Oaks 0: The defending District 1-3A champs had a rough start to the season falling at home to Carroll.

Ouachita 20, Airline 3: The Vikings failed to cross the goal line for the first time since a 28-0 shutout to Parkway in November 2015.

Northwood-Lena 32, Ringgold 12: Ringgold running back Tyrin Cunningham and wide receiver Keesean Johnson scored touchdowns.

Thursday

Byrd 43, Huntington 13: The Jackets got a pair of touchdowns from Dixon Poirier and Devon Strickland in rolling past Huntington at Independence Stadium. Tre Carter's 45-yard TD catch from Kamron Evans was one of the few Raider highlights. 

Benton 12, Northwood 7: The Tigers got a 1-yard touchdown from Greg Manning an and a 6-yard score from Gray Walters to hold off Northwood in the non-district contest. Falcons quarterback Mason Welch found Quintavion White for a 6-yard score in the fourth, but that was all the Northwood offense could muster.
